![]() Power yoga is a high-heat, high-energy workout produced by a combination of dynamic breathing and strong flowing movements. Yoga helps the flow of energy into the body, releases tension from joints, builds muscle strength, and even cleans the body of toxins.
Power yoga is a term used in the West to describe a fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. Most power yoga is from the Ashtanga style of yoga. The phrase “power yoga” came into general usage in the mid 1990s, when several yoga teachers were looking for a way to make Ashtanga yoga more appealing to western students. Unlike Ashtanga, power yoga does not follow a set series of poses. For that reason, one power yoga class can differ greatly from the next. What they have in common is an emphasis on strength and flexibility.
The advantages of power yoga are many and it is up to the practitioner to decide which form is best for them. Power yoga can help to increase lean muscle tissue, resulting in improved calorie burning, in turn reducing your body’s fat percentage and increasing your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). It works your stomach and back muscles constantly, increasing your core strength. Power yoga, like the traditional yoga, helps reduce stress and relax your body. Power yoga classes can vary widely from teacher to teacher. However, Power yoga will most likely interest people who are already quite fit, enjoy exercising, and who want very little meditation with their yoga. When you practice yoga you should do so under the supervision of a qualified yoga instructor. Women, especially in their teens, tend to put undue strain on their muscles and joints due to the excessive weight they place on their bodies while exercising.
