![]() The Half-Moon Pose is also called Ardha Chandraasana. In Sanskrit the word ardha means “half,” and chandra means “moon.” The moon has a symbolic meaning in yoga mythology. In hatha yoga, for example, the sun and the moon represent the two polar energies of the human body. The standing half moon pose in yoga is a great posture to use for improving balance and lengthening the spine. Instructions:From a standing position extend your arms up overhead and step your right foot forward and float your left foot parallel to the floor. Place your right hand on the floor. Extend your left arm up overhead and gaze toward your left palm.
Place your right hand on the ground about eight inches in front of your right foot. Use of a yoga block may be helpful. Raise your left leg into the air so that it is aligned with the ground. Position your hips over each other so that your weight is entirely on your right foot and hip; place your right hand on the ground (or block) for stability. Stay in this position for 10 to 15 full breaths, or as long as is comfortable. To come out of the pose, simply slide your left leg to the floor and come back to standing. Repeat on the other side.
